Does my phone support eSIM?
Type in your phone. The list covers the common models from Apple, Samsung, Google, Xiaomi and others. Your phone also has to be carrier-unlocked.
iPhone: Settings › General › About. If an EID is listed, eSIM is available.
Android: Settings › Connections › SIM manager, or dial *#06#. If an EID appears, eSIM is available.
Treat the list as a guide. Phones bought abroad - in mainland China or Japan, for example - can differ.

What is an eSIM?
An eSIM is a SIM built into your phone that is programmed by scanning a QR code. Instead of inserting a card, you load a profile into your settings. Your phone then runs two connections at once: your own number and the data plan you bought.
Can people still reach me on my number?
Yes. Your own SIM stays active, so calls and texts still come through. You just set mobile data to use the eSIM. Turn data roaming off on your own SIM so it cannot run up charges.
When does my plan start?
The clock starts when the eSIM first connects to a network at your destination, not when you buy it. So you can scan the QR code at home in your own time.
Do I need Wi-Fi to install it?
You need an internet connection to scan the QR code, so set the eSIM up before you leave home.
What happens when my data runs out?
The connection stops and nothing further is charged. You can buy another pack at any time; with most plans it is added to the eSIM you already installed, so there is no second QR code to scan.
Can I move the eSIM to another phone?
Usually not. An eSIM profile can normally only be installed once, so decide which phone it is for before you buy.
